A New Chapter in the DMV

In 1995, Emerson migrated from Barbados to the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

He brought with him his love for Caribbean culture, his gift for music, and his natural ability to connect with people. Over time, he became a familiar and trusted presence throughout the DMV’s Caribbean entertainment and social community.

Through parties, cultural events, community gatherings, and personal relationships, the Spyda moniker was born.

He fought a long and courageous battle, leaving behind an example of strength that continues to inspire those who knew him.

A Legacy That Continues

Spyda lost his battle with lymphoma, but his story did not end there.

Because he had spent so much of his life helping others, those closest to him believed that his legacy should continue through service. The SpydaStrong Foundation was established in his memory to provide free support and practical assistance to cancer patients, caregivers, and families.

Every ride to treatment, every caregiver supported, every family encouraged, and every resource provided carries his compassion forward.

Spyda’s music brought people together.

His legacy now brings people hope.
